Teaching
Pedagogy
Intergenerational ties and ruptures are the focus of Kathleen Rowe Karlyn’s Unruly Girls, Unrepentant Mothers, and she has favored pedagogies that strengthen those ties by encouraging teachers and students to teach and learn from each other. In mentoring students and junior colleagues, she has advised them to follow their own interests, as she has done in her own scholarship, while also striving to meet the highest standards of critical thinking and writing.
Feminism in the Classroom: Teaching Towards the Third Wave
“By decentring my presence in the classroom, I clear a space for students to work more independently, to develop skills in collaboration and to take more responsibility for their own learning. Ideally, students will eventually engage with feminism as an academic subject and political movement in its own right…”
